Default I can't seem to find what I need to keep cylinder compressed

I'm about to change my valve springs, but I can't find what I need to keep the cylinder compressed and the valve up. I was given a compression tester, but that won't work because it is like a tire gauge, it has to have air pushing against it to open up. What do I need and where can I find it? Thanks a lot!

if you have access to an air compressor than hook up your compression hose like you are doing a leak-down test it should come with the tester, this air should be enough to hold your springs. Can't say it will work for you, but it worked for me.

It is easier to turn the motor until the piston is top dead center for each cylinder you are working on. I tried one of those air lines and they are a pain to install into each spark plug hole.

You can remove the valve that makes your hose "like a tire guage". It unscrews and then air will pass through without pressure on it...

Put the piston at or near TDC you are working on, and then valve cannot fall far enough into bore...

I just recently did springs and the screw in type worked great for us. It easily threaded into each cylinder.

Thanks guys. Instead of messing with the compression tester, I found an air hold at Advance Auto Parts. Now if I could just keep track of my keepers and find a valvespring tool that works <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
