160 t-stat Q
Is reprogramming necessary for installng a 160* t-stat in an LS1. I heard locals guys go both ways. Some say it overheats and blow coolant and others say nothing happens but a cooler running engine. If anyone can help me, I just like to keep my temps below 210.

Personally, I wouldnt bother. The engine will run as hot as it wants, regardless of whether the thermostat allows flow at 160 or 180 deg. F. I set my fans to come on earlier for both stages. Temp never exceeds 94 deg. C.

The thermostat dictates the temperature at which the engine begins to be cooled, not the running temperature.
Reprogramming the temperature the fans come on is a good thing.
Although the LS1 runs cool on a run with a 160 'stat it will still get good and hot in town if the fans do not come on earlier.
