Default PtoV clearance with this custom cam?

I am going to be ordering a custom grind. My problem is I have asked tech support at a couple of vendors and they don't seem to know jack! I've got GMPP ported LS6 heads which are milled .055 and have the stock valve sizes in them. I also have the thicker 03' head gaskets on the car.

I want a max effort camshaft, so I need as big a cam as will safely fit without flycutting.
I was thinking 230/230 .575 .575 110 lsa

please any experiences/ feedback would be greatly apreciated.

Well, the problem lies with too many variables. If you are not degreeing in the cam, you don't know exactly where it is going line up. That is going to have an effect. Different valves are different thicknesses. That will change it. The valve job can change the clearance as well.

There are just too many variables for anyone to guess to see if it is going to work or not. You should ALWAYS check for clearance.

Good luck,

with your heads milled .055, you'll have to flycut the pistons. 2cc at least.
Still have to dial it in afterwards.

Is there any way to measure before buying the cam?

I just don't want to buy a custom cam and then can't make it work.

No need you will flycut with that cam and .055 mill.

How about lower lift and more duration?

there has to be some rough formula that you can use to get a ball park number. For instance, let say you start out with .600 lift to work with , minus the milling of the heads .055. This leaves you .545 right? The confusion (for me) starts when you try to factor duration into the equation. There has to be someone on this board that has real world experience with heads milled .055 and a similar cam. where are you?

The valve wouldnt hit at max lift. The clearance is determined by the duration and lobe profile more than anything else.

In short, there's no way to know for sure until you check it.

lets say you took one of the sponsors biggest cams that you knew would work on stock heads without flycutting. then subtract .055 lift for the heads being milled. Then you ordered a custom cam with the same duration and LSA but with .055 less lift. That should work shouldn't it?
