ARE Cast intake, pics:
While at ARE yesterday, I was able to take some pics on this intake they were working on. They wouldn't tell me much, except that it was going on a nitrous motor. It was a cast design. I'd hate to run into the car that has that motor!!

That is bad ***!!!
The belt drive system is pretty sweet, too!
Wade, I need one of those intakes, if nothing else just for the "bad ***" factor!

Hey Wade, stop playing on the computer and put my engine together! If you want to bolt one of those monsters on mine I'd be glad to do some field testing.

Very sweet. Im interested on how far that intake will shift usable power band up. Technically i think it will be shy on plenum volume with flat lid. This piece will have its proper application but im curios what it will be./ Did anybody else notice the size of the exhaust ports on that motor? Holy *****! It must be large.
Oh and it is definitely a sheetmetal intake not a cast one.

I saw it in person.
I dont know why the TB is on upside down. Maybe to see who would notice it?
It def looked like a sweet motor.

The lines down the center of the runner are the parting lines for the mold. The upper plenum is likely sheetmetal (I did not see the plenum when I was there a while back) and welded to the runners. The entire intake is not casted as one piece obviously.
I'd really encourage you to look at it first before jumping to the conclusion that it's sheetmetal, it is a cast setup for a reason. And I guess I can make this statement, because I have seen this intake already in person not via pictures, and the runners are definitely casted, not sheetmetal.
Looks like everything is coming along quite well at the ARE shop!

Re: ARE Cast intake, pics:
I think that thing looks rediculous. Don't get pissed but just my opinion. The intake plenum is definetly welded together. view the picture full size and you can see all the welds have been sanded down. Far as the parting seem on the runners, who cares. They look like some continuous cast stock tubing that cut into equal pieces and welded to the plenum. But, so what. does it really matter whether it is stock or cast. The design is what matters. Look at the front view. The transition angles between the roof and floor port openings are a joke. Air flow likes some sort of radius. Like your short turn. Look at the first front shot. the transistion angle looks to be almost a 90 degrees angle. real good for flow. Also where is the taper. None up or down or side to side. Thats real good for velocity. Want to see who really knows how to make a sheet Alum intake:

Re: ARE Cast intake, pics:
My bad about sheetmetal comment. I have been involved in construction of handmade sheetmetal intakes in the past and it is possible that epoxy can/will be used to give runner opening a radiused transition to port runner.Im sure plenum is limited by hood clearance.

Re: ARE Cast intake, pics:
1: They are made with cast runners due to a 'True Street' class we run up here which does not allow complete sheetmetal intakes, but allows sheetmetal plenums. Don't ask me how they came to this conclusion! Or else we would have just bought a sheetmetal! Duh!
2: The intake loses less than 5 cfm on the bench bolted to the head. An LS6 intake loses more air then this.
3: Ever cut open a LS1/LS6 intake? You'd be surprised what rads are in those!!
4: There is a taper casted into the runners for velocity.
5: There is more to this application other than just replacing a LS6 intake.
6: We are limited to 7" tall for it fit under a F-Body cowl. We are not working with 10 or 12" heights
7: This is for a power-adder drag race application
8: Don't lose sleep, it'll work!
