Default zo6 heads

ok, excuse my ignorance but a zo6 has ls6 heads right? so if i install ls6 "zo6" heads on my 98 Z (of-course with an appropriate cam and intake mod), will i make the same amount of hp/trq.?

the reason i ask is because i was looking at a set of heads and cam package from SLP and they claim 500hp!! I wanted to know if these were ls6 heads or zo6 heads, if there is any difference between the two?

also, after i install my headers (FLP or Hookers?), i want to either install a heads/cam or forced induction, depending on power output compared to price

any help?

You'd also need to have your car tuned. Some better flowing exhaust manifolds would help too.

Z06 heads are in fact LS6 heads, one and the same though there is a slight difference between the '01 versions and later ('02-'04) ones.
If they are LS6 heads than SLP will state them as such.
I personally would go with one of the other reputable tuners/sponsors on this board that are well known for their cylinder heads such as Cartek ( www.cartek.net ) and the like before going with an SLP package.

i think the slp package is a little high priced and overrated.you could probably get something cheaper that will make better power than the slp set. AFR does good stuff, maybe MTI? search some and read a lot and you'll find what you are looking for. good luck

My friend saved up his money to get that package and didnt come anywhere near the gains that they claimed. You can save money and make more power if you look around.

alright...thanks...i know that AFR, MTI are reputable and i'll also research the others formentioned.....however, wat im looking for is a setup that i'll fell "comfortable" enough dropping the cash if the gains are adequate. im know that just on heads/cam, 500hp is a bit extreme....but i wanted to know if i first, can install 04 zo6 heads and secondly, if i bolt them on with a sweet cam, will i get the simular gains....basically, can 11.00ets be achievable with heads/cam, and headers....on a 3.23 gear?

thanks...

well slp over rates all! their parts, sayin you'll gain like 50 hp from just their headders, they are great headders though. you should get a stall and at least some 3.73 gears or just go for the Nitrous!!!!

If you were to install Z06 (aka: LS6) heads on your car and do nothing else (no cam or say a small cam, no tuning etc.) then you would see some gains but nothing spectacular and no, you would NOT run an 11.00 NA, especially on mere 3.23s, and more especially in a heavy convertible.
Stock LS6 heads (or better yet, ported ones), all the bolt ons (including high stall torque converter, gears, sticky tires) a properly chosen big cam, tuning and some serious weight reduction and then maybe you could see some low 11s.

They've had some controversy surrounding them (both the LS1 and the LS6 versions I think) yes, they are a little cheaper than most but some of the issues that have come up might be the result of that.
I'd look into another reputable supplier, such as Cartek Racing.
