Default what do i use to measure...

how far the piston goes over the deck of the block? is there a special tool? and do i half to measure all the pistons or just one? thanks pat

You can try a Depth Micrometer. I just used a pair of digital calipers and roughed it.

You can use a dial indicator with a mounting bracket to do it.

a picture is worth a thousand words... basically the U shaped stand is magnetic, so it holds itself to the block. You then fit the the dial indicator to the bracket, and the rest is just reading the gauge as you move the piston up and down the bore.

There are other mounting brackets that you can move around, like a little arm with wing nuts on it so you can position the dial anywhere you want.
