Default Dyno results with new TR220 cam..

Good News.. drove the car down to the dyno for baseline and tuning.. was running pretty good after the cam install but with the larger injectors im sure it was a bit rich. Here is what I installed

TR220 114LSA cam
Comp 918 springs with hardened pushrods
LS6 ported Oil Pump
Katech Tiiming Chain
30# Siemens Deka injectors

The rest of my mods are in my sig.. before the cam I was dynoing around 335rwhp and 342rwtq..

On the baseline pull:
357rwhp and 360rwtq

After some tuning:
369rwhp and 373rwtq

So thats a gain of 34rwhp and 30rwtq with the new cam through stock heads, shorty headers and factory cats -- Im pretty happy with it and im smog legal still. Lots of lowend torque so the car is very fun to drive. Had to have a little more go to compliment the show

Bad News: Noticed the volt guage reading low while driving to the shop. It was reading around 12v.. I was going to go to cruise night tonight but on the way home it just got worse and is now around 10v and throwing a SES code.. So as bad as I wanna show it off I will wait till next week after this is fixed..

Nice numbers Steve. It is good to see some shorty headers and cam results.

Oh, and I should mention that the car was tuned by Mark of Andy's Auto Performance (a board sponsor)..

Nice numbers! I'm glad to see somebody else who seeks to make hp while staying smog legal.

I have the same cam but am currently looking into shorties. Which headers did you go with? What else have you done?

A set of grotyohann style longtubes will boost lowend torque production as well. Great numbers!

Steve, why can't you run a set of longtubes with all the emissions provisions, and a set of good cats? I dont see how that would hurt emissions. But I am not very familiar with Cali regulations.

Either way, those are excellent #'s through shorties and STOCK cats . Definately a 390 horse stock headed car with a better exhaust system.

You forgot to list the Willwood brakes That is the best looking LS1 engine I have seen by the way.

Steve, congrats for coming up with a sensible, well-thought out and effective set-up! This should be a good model for others that want more power but aren't doing all-out drag racing. And BTW, your car looks as good as ever! I remember seeing the pictures before over on the SLP board.

Results of my "old man" setup with similar cam + ported heads below. I might also try the new BBK 1 3/4" primary shorties when they become available. May be good for a few more top-end ponies.

CA is the toughest on smog and we have visual, not that you cant find a creative way to get by it but its nice to know im good to go.. heck, even my FIPK has a CARB number

Its a torquie little sucker to be sure.. now for that 75 shot

This is not a flame Steve, everyone including myself has much respect for you and what you have brought to the board. I'm just confused on a few things.
How come you decided to get a ported oil-pump, timing chain and bigger injectors with such a small cam and stock heads? Did you just decide to do it or did someone recommend it to you and if so, why? The timing chain and ported oil-pump are good precautions but still not completely necessary especially if you don't race alot. The injectors are just plain overkill. I'm suprised you got them when the factory injectors would have been more than capable to handle that kind of power but you did not get titanium retainers for the springs. Also, do you road race or do some other kind of long distance driving? I'm a little curious about the SLP high output radiator. Seems you could have picked and choosed a little on your parts an maybe got a good set of heads while you were in the motor over some of the other items you decided to get first. Once again, no flames and you certainly do not have to explain yourself or your decisions. I'm just enquiring on some friendly feedback.

Reasons.. Since I had the cam out it was easy enough to do the chain. I got the Katech chain brand new for $75 so "since I was there" it was nice to upgrade from the smaller factory chain. I had a few oil pressure fluctuations (and we know some early cars had oil pump problems) so it was easy to change while doing the cam. The new pump maintains about 10psi over the stocker

Injectors.. it was a "while im there thing.." I plan on installing a 75/100 shot in about 6 months so I figured (since it was no extra labor on my part) to install the 30#'ers.. I figure its better to have them and not need them then to need them and not have them. Plus Ive read alot that the spray patteren (disc) on the Siemens Deka injectors are more efficent. I just got a wild hair to do it

Retainers: On such a small cam the TI units would be of little (if any) benefit. Since the plan is to get stage II (or REALLY good Stage I) heads this time next year (and those heads will most likely have the REV springs) then I didnt see the need to get them. In hindsite I should have just gotten them..

Use of car.. I love to run my car hard.. I often in the upper RPM's and I try to make it out to as many "track" days as I can. So while these are not competative events I do road race the car. I also like to drag race it also but I am a better road racer than drag racer. The point being is that I value low end torque more then high end power and while I dont abuse my car I dont coddle it either

Also, When I started this last project it was just going to be a "in and out fast" install of a cam.. it sorta snowballed into the detailing fest and such. Also drivability and general driving enjoyment is more important to me than getting every single last HP out of the car (hence the shorties that are smog legal and easy to live with over the long tubes and their issues).

Thanks for the feedback and I hope this has given you a little insite into the mind of a madman.. and yes, like any project (in hindsight) I would have done a few things differently. but hey, thats life
