Default C5R Timing Chain Dampner a good upgrade

The http://www.xmsengineering.com/engine/ site show a $104.95 GM GENIII/LS1/LS6/C5R Timing Chain Dampner. Is this a C5R specific part or is it standard on all LS1 engines? Their info says:

GM Timing Chain dampner for the GENIII engines that include the LS1 and LS6. This dampner is designed to reduce chain slap keeping it tighter for engines operating above 6500 RPM.

I believe on most of the blocks (except for 97 and early 98's) you have to drill the mounting holes.

That doesn't sound like a really big deal, especially since the motor will be out of the car.

Does anyone have more info about the part and whether or not it is a worthwhile upgrade?

Do a search, if I remember correctly I read that there is absolutely no need for that dampener, particularly if you are running an after market chain which is tighter than stock to begin with.

I did try seaching and came up with zero

Can anyone else offer up some info? Doesn't the C5R run a good chain AND this tensioner?
