Default Cam opinions

I have been running the MTI B1 cam .221/.221 .558 114. on 921 valvesprings i have another cam available to go in it right now my concern is valve cover clearence. My heads are ported, i have comp R lifters and comp pro mag 1.75 rockers, and trick flow hardened rods stock length. the cam i will be getting is a .228/.230 .571/573 112 curious if i will have to change the pushrod length or not i know im going to have to get a valve cover spacer or a tall cover do to the added lift from the rockers and lifters. any help would be greatly appreciated.

you shoudl be able to clearence the stock covers. Be careful what retaners you run those rockers hit the retainer on some. Crane duals for example. Evil lost his motor on that deal. No one can answer your prod ?, likely it will not change but depending on the base circle of the cam it could

granny, i havent had a problem with the rockers hitting the retainers that i can tell. i get under those covers often just to make sure the lash hasnt changed for som ereason.... its happened twice but thats before i figured out i had to run 20w 50 oil to keep the lifters pumped up. i ended up getting the 921 spring kit which came with the retainers and seats. i thought that the max lift for the stock covers were .581? or was that a rumor?

did you have to remove the metal pice on the inside of the driver valve cover to clearance rockers? i had to and i only have a .558 lift cam with the 1.75 rockers and comp r lifters. and i heard that rumor somewhere on this board but it was a year or more ago

um i'm not sure why. although i'm almost positive it has more to do with your higher then stock ratio rocker arms then the cam. althought you DO realize that right now, your effective lift(due to your rocker arms) is .574, and the new cam you have planned will have an effective lift of .588/.590? Just making sure you know that with the new rockers its Original Lift / Stock RA Ratio(1.7) = .XXX, .XXX * Aftermarket RA Ratio(for you, its 1.75) = Total Effective Lift.

Its not the lift, its the rocker your runnin causing the clearence issues. You may want to inspect those rockers/retainers closely. Remember you broke a 918 and I said there is no reason why you shoudl have except for a mechanicla failure or stress? Same thing happened to a guy running a very good spring, but it broke running the Comp rockers
Have you had the car on the dyno with the rocker combination? If so post agraph

granny, i never broke a spring but thats what i was afraid of. the 918 spring allowed the valves to float at on several occasions and the piston hit several valves but did no damage from what i can tell it only happened when i was sprayin. the tacking sound which i thought was a broken spring was a loose rocker arm being i did not set the lash correctly because the rockers wouldnt lock, thanks to me not using th eright oil to keep the lifters properly pumped up. unfortunately when i went to get the dyno tuning done for my new head/cam/valvetrain set up the clutch blew out the side of the trans and never made it to the dyno. either way i might play it safe and get a spacer. im running the comp 921 springs now btw.
