Default Please help me choose an LS1 engine builder in the North East!

I just purchased a 2001 Firebird Formula that is in great shape aside from an engine that is on it's way out... The car is 100% stock except for a hidden NOS 5177 kit that the previous owner used without any jets This is my 1st LS1 car but I have been following the LS1 world since I bought my 97 Mustang GT that I just got rid of... funny thing is that the LS1 Firebird with a blown engine is faster than my Mustang was at it's peak

I am looking for a reliable and reputable LS1 engine builder somewhere in the North East to purchase, install and tune either a 38XCI LS1 stroker or 40XCI Iron block stroker. I am not looking for the cheapest place, but the place that offers the best value...

Thanks for your help

You can't do any better than Cartek. Fair prices, a string of super fast cars built, and good people.

I would be happy to show you what we have to offer if you're interested. We have actually just released a line of LS1 crate engines that might be exactly what you're looking for.

Check the parts for sale section, or let me know if I can answer any questions.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed, I will give you a shout in the next day or two to get some pricing from you... I checked out your site and the stock rebuild looks good, but I am looking for forged internals... at the very least upgrades rods and pistons. From what I can tell the stock cranks are pretty solid... I am also interested in an iron block stroker but I don't see any mention of this on your site. Thanks

Also look into Dez Racing and Tbyrne - both are sponsors on this board.

Cartek. They're in NJ, they're definitely #1 in the area.

I am closer to ARE than Rapid, so would it not make more sense just to go to ARE directly? Thanks

I am getting a 408 iron block motor built by APE in MI... spoke with Chris on the phone and he was very helpful and his prices seemed fair. There is a write up about their 408 in the magazine section of my webpage @ www.avigdor.net .

I saw some pretty bad posts about the service at APE... how does everyone feel about them? I myself am really starting to lean twords the 408 iron block over a stroked LS1... more performance for the same money and I don't care about the extra 90lbs...

I would love to hear from people who have delt with APE, either good or bad...

I noticed SLP has really good deal on a 402 stroker... I can't seem to find anyone who has actually bought or installed one... should I be considering them?

No personal experience but APE and Cartek seem to have very good reputations.

I have great respect and total confidence in Mike at Rapid Motorsports. He also builds some very fast cars.

P.S.- He's a board sponsor: http://www.rapidmotorsports.com/

Chris @ APE put my shortblock together. He and Nick went out of their way to help me out before and after the motor went into the car (and it wasn't a typical install job). I highly recommend them.

Go to the Eastern section and search/post. You'll find countless folks who are completely satified with Dez's work. Don't judge them based on their web site.

As for Tbyrne, I know they do installs, not sure about engine builds.

First of all, where are you in the NE ? We are in Mass. and build countless motors for LS1's,but if your in NJ you'd be better off going to Cartek,TTP,Rapid ect. There are many shops that can do what your looking for.You just need to pick a good shop close to you and work out your motor combination with them. Also might help if you search the eastern forum for more help
