Default TSP 231/231 vs 231/237?

Alright, I'm looking into cams and contemplating future items, my 2 big choices are the TSP 231/231 .595/.595 112 cam, and the TSP 231/237 .598/.595 112 cam, the power band on the 231/237 is obviously a larger one(6700, where the 231 is 6500), anyways, I'm wondering what would be the best cam for me, I plan on keeping this car NA and possibly high compression later on(12:1)

You might also want to look into the tsp torquer. It will have close to the 231/237's peak hp, but will have better power under the curve. It would beat the 231/231 in all areas I was told due to the aggressive lobes. If you are just interested in track #s, the 231/237 should get you slightly better times than either the 231/231 or the torquer, but on the street the torquer would be better.

Both of those camshafts are going on special Sunday!! You pretty much can't go wrong with either cam!

I'd go with the torquer.

well I am running the 231/237 and a buddy of mine is running the 231/231 cam, we are both on mail order tunes from TSP and on the dyno mine is 390hp and his is 387hp at the wheels on stock heads with some boltons. I you want the sound the 231/237 is a little more radical to me. I dont know how big u want to go but TSP has a MAGIC STICK cam that is making some nice numbers, my buddy I think is going to buy it. Good luck on your decision to many to choose from BRIAN.

any other suggestsions for cams? my theory is the bigger the better but it seems liek thats the biggest you want to get for stock displacement...

btw thanks for the info that they're gunna be on sale this sunday but i dont think i'll be able to get it by that time, i'm doin some bolt ons first, namely the TSP true duals and kooks headers, btw, do you know how long the tsp true duals are gunna be shipped for free?

I have the true duals from them, awesome, and sounds great! You might want to look into the MS3, huge cam, just not much information on it yet.

im impartial to TSP...since i live like 5 miles away, and they have some of the best customer service

but i stabbed my T/A with a used X1 cam by MTI the other day and it sounds incredible, even with the idle set at 800rpm....

long story short, if i were to buy a brand new cam....i'd go tsp 231/237

if you're going to stay NA, and spend more time on the street than the track, go with the torquer. the 231/237 will get you better numbers but at the cost of some low end. either cam would go well for you. but like i said, since you're stayin NA, i'd go with the torquer out of those two.

I'd say by your description that the Torquer might be the way to go for you... 231/237 will make slightly more peak power, but not enough to make that big of a difference. The 231/237 really needs at least a 4.10 gear, IMO... and from driving at the track I'm thinking a 4.30 might be a little closer to optimum for it's power band. Either of these cams will do well with stock heads, but really shine with a good set of Stage 2 heads. The only other consideration would be nitrous, and even then you'd have to be spraying bigger than a 150 shot for the 231/237 to show up as the better cam.

So long story short I'd get the torquer if I were staying mostly street with stock or close to stock (like 3.73) gearing. However, if I was going to spend some time at the track and I plan on at least a 4.10 gear set and considering heads and/or nitrous in the future, I'd go with 231/237.

I was plannin on goin with 4.10's anyways so I think i might test the 231/237 out eventually, just cause A: i dont mind a little low end torque loss, and B: how its gunna sound...100% badass

I would go with the 231/237. That's what I have and is great especially with 4.10's. Plus I love the way it sounds at idle!

I guess that post was for me. I had a Cartek 218/222 cam before the 231/237.
