Question Suggestions on daily driver cam setup?

Starting my research and here is what I am looking for. I am leaning heavily towards the 224/224 cam based on everyone's recommendations but I don't want to be changing my springs every 30k. I want CLOSE to stock longevity yet still feel a 30-40 rwhp jump on stock heads and stock exhaust. I'll likely add/port some heads later on, possibly PP's 5.3s. Is this a realistic goal? Is ANY cam swap going to require service intervals like this? Would I be better off just doing heads only and keeping the stock cam to achieve this goal?

I want a sleeper, that's why the exhaust goal I have. I may do some long tubes but would keep the cats and stock catback. In a perfect world, I'd go true duals with an X and 2 big, quiet mufflers but don't want to drop a grand on that right now. Any opinions or recommendations on a cam package and/or heads?

Thanks!
Jason

exhaust before cam .. get some long tubes with cats and throw a magnalflow muffler in place of your stock one .. better flow , deep sound and still pretty quiet

I wouldn't do heads w/o a cam .. no point to that

changing springs and cams .. I will let someone else answer that but a TR224 cam is one of the best street cams around ..

If you are an auto .. get a stall first

30k spring change intervals is pretty good. If you wanna do less than that, you might want to consider the ls6 cam or the hotcam. Both have lazier lobes and lower lift than the tr224 so the springs would last longer.

There are so many good sleeper cams out there.

TR220-114
LPE GT2-3
CC216/220
TR OMC
MTI Stealth I and II

Are a few.

Good luck

Put a TR224 cam and springs.
Drive for 30K miles.
Put StageII Heads (with new springs).
Drive for 30K miles.

You're covered for 60,000 miles there before having to worry about a spring swap.

Or, your options are the low lift cams listed above already, or a GMPP ASA Cam (226/236 .525/.525 110) which will be plenty good on meeting your HP goals, but is a wicked loper of a cam.

The sleeper idea on the cam and exhaust will eventually get old IMHO. To me there's nothing like pulling into Mcdonalds or someplace and having EVERYONE turn to look at what is loping. They don't find a old school muscle car either, but a WS6. People just find it amazing to have a new car with a mean cam in it around here. I wouldn't hide my lope for NUTHIN!!! To each his own though, good luck.

Cops look too. I hate that. A stealth set up only gets attention when you want it.

I don't follow you on this reply. I simply mean that when they turn to see what's pulled in they see MY car, which IS a WS6? How can you not agree with that I'm not pissed off or nuthing, just wondering what you meant by that. Please clarify.

I think he just meant that for him it would be an SS instead of a ws6 since he owns an SS.

I dont think you will get a 30rwhp jump with stock headers and cats on. You could see that kinda jump if you gutted the cats and put the cam in. Tuning will be needed to get rid of the SES that you will thourgh but that is the name of the game.
Cam (your choice)
Springs
Pushrods if you want
oil pump (stock one sucks unless yours is new like 01+)
Gut the cats ( you will chock off the cam if you dont)
Tuning.

That's what I meant.

BriancWS6, I totally agree with your statement. Soon I will have a FMS F12 in my car, so I hope it has a nice lope to it!

That's cool, just didn't fully understand at first, good luck with the cam, you'll love it.
