Default What is EVERYTHING needed for 02 LS6 cam swap?

I'm a broke college kid on a budget, and going a custom cam along with tuning is what I want but it'll be many moons until I can afford everything I need to go with it. For now the plans are to up performance just a touch. I'm around 300 rwhp, 310 rwtq as of now on my 2.73 geared A4 car. Plans are for a 3500/2.5 converter and the 02 LS6 cam. I don't believe I'll get around to the LS6 intake yet as I don't have a means of deleting my EGR system from the computer, so basically I'm just going to drop the 02 LS6 cam into an otherwise stock engine (save SCC ram air intake and a cutout on the exhaust side). What is EVERYTHING I need to make this happen? I plan on ordering it all from SDPC so if anyone has part numbers or even links to the stuff I need it's much appreciated.

Also since I can't afford tuning just yet, would it be worthwhile to pick up a used MAFT and a used HPP3, and use the MAFT of course for A/F ratio and use the HPP3 for shift points ONLY (can you use it for only shift points or does it have to have the programming installed?) I'm figuring with the 02 LS6 cam I could probably stand to run the engine up few more hundred RPMs and shoot to shift around 6200-6300. Thoughts and suggestions? Thanks for any help guys.

I just did a bare bones LS6 cam install last week on a 02 WS6. This is all I needed.
12565308 cam $185 - SDPC
12565313 spring (16) $88 - SDPC
shipping on cam & springs $14.75
12557840 crank bolt - $2.50 - local dealer
2 cans 134a freon $6 - local
1/2 gal dexcool $ 3 - local

I would also suggest upgrading the valve seals to the 02 LS1/LS6 type. They have an integrated spring seat that is .010 thicker than stock and give a slightly shorter installed spring height.
12482062 exhaust
12482063 intake

Josh, the pushrods you need will have to be .05" longer, due to the fact that the base circle of the 02'LS6 cam is .05" smaller than the stock LS1 cam. So, you'll need 7.45" long hardened pushrods, which SDPC also sells. Here ya go: Pushrods

Hey, you weren't supposed to see this post The plan was to get this sometime soon, and get it on then, then head to the track and run times way faster than I should be running with my current setup, and since the LS6 cam is such a sleeper cam no one would be the wiser, then I could get some "WHAT THE HECK DID YOU DO TO YOUR CAR" type looks before I told everyone I had gotten the LS6 cam Mr. Pattycake, it is your job to keep quiet on this one, we are planning a May 3rd trip up to Beech Bend and maybe by then I can have everything in. If not then I'll get them next time at the track. It'll be cutting it really close but I'd like to surprise a few of the guys

I thought you wanted to know bare minimums needed for the install. If you want to buy gaskets and pushrods, go ahead, but they are not needed. The 7.45 length is bad advice. The actual length needed is 7.427, which they do not make unless you have custom ones made. If you use 7.45 pushrods, you'll just be pulling them back out because they are too long. Someone on here has already tried 4.75 pushrods and had to remove them.

No, no, not bare minimums at all. This cam will probably be in the car for a while and I want EVERYTHING needed to make it work and work right. I heard that you could get everything for around $450 from SDPC so thats why I asked what everything was. Gaskets and pushrods and all. In the other post it was also mentioned to get those pushrods. Any more input guys? Need all the help I can get.

So what happens when you use the stock length pushrods? Do you get slack in the valvetrain? Because you still have to make up for the supposed .027 that you're short.

I apologize for the mistake earlier, but I was just going from what SDPC has listed on their website.

Pushrod length is irrelevant now. I believe I'm going to hold off on camming the car now. In the future the LS6 was going to be swapped for a 224 cam anyways, but I figure I'll excersise a little patience and go camless for a while to afford the 224 cam sooner. In actuality getting the LS6 cam would be wasting money in a way. I'll just do converter, then headers, then gears and LS1 Edit, that way I'll be ready for the 224 cam. As it stands I was going to get the LS6 cam now and do all the other stuff, and get the 224 cam next summer, but if I go this other route I MIGHT be able to get the 224 cam around late fall, so if I am patience now it'll pay off earlier.

Thanks for all the help guys, even though it was for naught. I'm sure this post could be helpful to someone though.

So what length pushrod would make the geometry correct? Do they make a pushrod this length.

As far as the stockers....some have said they work just fine....but why did the Chevy engineers say somthing about the cam base circle being smaller and the stockers wouldn't work?

SO you'd need:
Cam
Springs
(what is needed to properly install the springs?)
Crank Bolt
Freon
Dexcool
Crank Seal??
What other seals would be needed to do it the right way.
Thx

Gives me more than twice the room to work in there, I don't risk breaking an A/C line, and I have all the equipment to properly recharge the A/C. I've read all the posts where you can just lift the condenser out of the way, but I do a lot of installs by my self and don't have an extra set of hands to hold it up. Hell, people waste more money than that replacing reusable gaskets.
