So how screwed is my motor?????? Is this bearing material?
Changed the oil today, lots of tiny little shavings were stuck to the magnet of the oil plug, very fine shavings, small, no more than 1-2mm long and very thin.
I also found this stuck to the oil plug: WTF is this??
Keep in mind I did a cam swap about 300miles ago, but it's wasn't very messy and I didnt think we dropped anything into the pan. Let me know what you guys think.
Also, how many qt's are in a gallon?
thanks

My oil pressure seems normal, if it drops I assume to stop immediately. Does bearing material mean it will fail for sure? How can I be sure this is bearing material?

I hate that!! It could be from anywhere. It could be some casting flash that was broken off during the cam install. Or a piece of cam bearing that scraped during install. If it is a rod bearing, you will probably hear it knocking soon. I have seen some strange stuff like that come out of the valve springs, or retainers. My guess is that it is from the cam install process and your rods are OK.

If yours is damaged it will fail sooner than a non-damaged one. How much sooner, no one can accurately say.
The only way to be positive it is bearing material is to teardown the bottom end and look at the bearings.

Before going ahead and tearing apart the motor, drop the oil pan and disconnect the caps to see the bearings. If the bearings are copper, your going to need to tear it down completely, polish/turn the crank, etc.
Hope everything goes ok.

damn man, who knows, you could tear it down but if its running normal you might be able to just keep on going, that could be from anywhere. Think of it this way if you get a motor failure it must be Gods way of saying its time to upgrade
