Default Help with LS1 identification

Hello,

I recently purchased an LS1 takeout. The seller claimed that the engine was from a 2001 F-Body. However, the engine has an EGR valve. I have read in the FAQ that 01-02 motors did not have an EGR valve. Is this always true? Is there any way (externally) for me to verify that the motor is indeed a 2001? Please help,

-ch

Hey guys,

I still need help! My motor doesn't have the casting mark shown in the picture below, so I still don't know what year the motor is. The casting has the boss show below the '10mm' below, but it is blank.

Here is all the info I could retrieve:

Block casting number: 12559378
Sticker on back of head: 10YHB K010710231
Head casting number: 241
Intake injection number: 12561184 (LS6, I believe)

According to this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....2&postcount=41
the 241 casting is for 01-03. But my engine had EGR on it which according to this post:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....81&postcount=3
was discontinued in 2001. ARGH!

Can you tell me what source you used for that casting number? I'd just like to verify that it's really a 2000 block before I do anything else. I'm really confused because it's (apparently) got an LS6 intake which is supposedly a 2001+ change.

Actually it was used starting in mid 99 and into early 2001 when 12561168 replaced it. It's primary useage was in 2000 but carried into 2001 so finding one with a LS6 intake is entirely possible. It was used in both Corvettes and F-bodies. There are several sources such as:
1.http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

2.http://www.racecheep.com/Castings.html

3.http://ss-firstgeneration.hp.infosee.../materials.htm

My actual source was my hand written reference notes that I have taken since 1999.

I really appreciate the assistance--it's been very helpful. I'm not totally sure yet but now I am reasonably confident I can identify my engine year. Thanks!
