It depends on the cam choice - however most will install aftermarket springs while they are wrenching. I know I wouldn't want to use stock springs with my .591 lift cam. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

BYBYC5 is exactly who i thought about when i saw this thread. he did run the hotcam on completely stock springs w/ no tricks. ya might be able to shim them and get away with it and a better idle, but then again, springs are just too cheap to even mess with. just get a set of 918's and run the cam you really want. even the bigger cams do well in these cars w/ no tuning. i just happen to know. ;D

Stock LS1 spring spec: 76 lbs on the seat, 220 lbs over the nose.
Stock 01 LS6 spring spec: 90 lbs on the seat, 260 lbs over the nose.
I have not seen any published specs on the 02 LS6 spring. I wish someone would test one on a spring checker and post them.
As you can see, stock LS1 springs are pretty weak. Most aftermarket cams want something around 110 lbs seat pressure and 300+ over the nose. Not to mention coil bind possibilities with stock springs.

And the 918s will get you 130 Lb seat pressure if installed at the factory spec 1.80" height.

With an install height of 1.77", they will get you a seat press. of 135 Lb.
