Default Cam bearing question

I installed a set of SH-1814S Clevite cam bearings into a 6.0 Iron block, The cam goes in smooth and all, But when the cam is fully in the motor, I can rock the camshaft up and down slightly, most motors I put together are extremely tight and there is no up or down play. Can someone tell me if the part number for those bearings are correct? They went in kinda tight, but are installed perfectly fine and square.Thank's,

Yes, They are pre-lubed, I called clevite and they verified the correct part number...guess I will just grab a set of 1888M's from FM and put those in..**** clevite!

I measured the oil clearance between the cam journal and the inside diameter of the cam bearings and got .0034" clearance..isn't that a little excessive? If someone could chime in and tell me what the factory oil clearance is for the camshaft journals.I dont want any low oil pressure issues! Thank's

TTT I measured another LS1 motor I have here and came up with .0015" clearance..with the exact same camshaft! I guess it's another chalk up for bad clevite's

Awesome thank's Nick.I have used Durabonds in the past with awesome success, but I just ordered a set of 1888M's from texas-speed...we'll see what happens. If they go in nice and the camshaft oil clearance tightens up, I will inform everyone about the clevite bearings..because .0034" is WAY to much IMO when the Federal mogual's have .0015"

Why wouldn't you just use the OEM bearings? Do they ever fail?

Default Cam bearing oil clearance

The Clevite manual calls for .0011" to .0063" clearance with this bearing. I think you are fine as is @ .003" in the iron block. If you install too tight for race applications you are bound to spin a cam bearing.

I prefer Durabond myself for cam bearings because they are full round not rolled from strips. In any case I would get nervous with much if any less than .003" on a cam bearing for any engine that will see high revs.

I read somewhere that the 6.0 block has two different size cam bearings. One for early blocks and one for later blocks. Is this true? I am building a 408 with Lunati internals and I am concerned about the cam bearing issue. I had a local machine shop bore my block and install cam bearings so I am not sure what kind I have. I put my cam in today but the install seemed really tight. I can turn the cam by hand with no drag points but it does not spin easily. Is this normal with new stuff. Could I have the wrong bearings?
