Default Found Sludge!!!!

I was having my Oil changed at the dealership i work at and the lubeguy found yellowish mustard like sludge in on my oil filler cap?!??! When the oil was coming out the oil looked fine, no chunks of sludge that i or he noticed. My catch can didnt have any water in it either? They said it might be a intake leak causeing the sludge build-up, how can I check???

your intake doesnt have coolant or oil in it so no thats not the problem. is this a gm dealership? if there was none in the oil i would just check up on the oil everynow and then, the sludge is just condesation in the crankcase i'm sure. but just check it every couple days to be sure for awhile. also check your collant level

Condensation on the oil cap, I have seen it in a lot of motors but it does not in itself indicate a problem.

I agree w/SS rally Red.

Condensation most likely. You probably haven't gotten oil above 200* recently

I get that all the time once the weather drops below 55 and I don't drive it longer than 20 minutes. Condensation.

I live about 5 miles from work, and the weather has recently gotten down under 50 degrees. I'm picking up about a cup of water every month in my catch can, mixed with a little oil - it's that orange/yellow mustard sludge you're talking about. I also get a little of that same residue on the underside of the oil cap.

Nothing to worry about unless you're not making frequent short trips.

It takes a lot longer than you think for the oil to get up above 180F. In cold weather I need to drive for more than 20min before I see the oil temp in my C5 even get to 180. Then it takes another 5-10 minutes to get up to 200. Short trips in cold weather equals lots of condensation in your oil.
