More low end torque on an LS1
Does anyone know how to get more torque at lower RPM'S in an LS1? I love every aspect about LS1's except that LT1's feel so much stronger when your just driving around town. I know that stock LT1's only put out 325 Lbs of torque @ 2400 RPM's and LS1's put out 335 Lbs of torque @ 4400 RPM's. Is ther a way to drop the max torque of an LS1 down about 1000 - 2000 RPM's or do you have to modify the crap out of your car to make it fell like you have the torque at lower RPM's???

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
The best suggestion I can make is an aftermarket cam with a tighter LSA and a few degrees advance ground in. I have gobs of L98-style low-end torque on my "old man" setup below, although I'm sure the
1 5/8" primaries on my shorties are helping too.
Otherwise you can compensate somewhat for the lack of torque by getting gears in an M6 or a higher stall 'verter on an auto. Just my $.02.

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
There are SEVERAL ways to make some serious low end TQ with these motors. The options listed above are a few.
If you're an M6, the easiest way is yank those granny 3:42's out. Put some 4:10's in, and forget about your LT1 low end TQ. It'll rip your face off at 2K and instantly be at 4000+ pullin...

The gears are the way to go...I got 4.11s and they put that WTF look on other SS owners real quick. It was the first mod I made.

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
Hey guys.... stop giving this guy all these bogus solutions to his low end torque problem!!!
Nobody is buying it guys!!!!
Here's what you do.. go get a "Paul Walker special", or you could go with the "Vin Diesel" or "Johny Tran" spoiler on the back of the car. Make the degree of angle on it at about 23.24519856.... and you should be good to go!!!
That's how the big boys make the real power and torque!!
If you need any more tips let me know!!
p.s. seriously get yourself a rear end gear (4.10's) or a converter if it is auto... or just put the gas on it

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
I just went from the stock 342's to a 410 gear. That made a HUGE difference in how the power comes on now. This thing pulls hard in 6th gear on the highway, no need to downshift

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
Depending on how much you want to spend and what you want to do....
The least expensive way would be the gears. A nice set of 4:10's.....
A more expensive way is the cam... With the cam, depending on the cam you most likely will want to replace the springs, and in addition you might need tuning.
But if you have the bucks, a good tuned header like SLP or ect, a moderate duration, moderate lift cam with a slightly higher LSA, and a set of 4:10, or if you have an A4 a high stall converter and some 3:73's...
I know I am not saying anything different then in the above post, but just another opionion for you.

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
Advancing the cam you have and milling the heads to raise the compression are good ways to get more low end torque.
Gears does not lower the engine low end torque. They make it feel like it but doesn't actually low the peak torque rpm.
Longer stroke, more cubic inches, of course is a way to get more low end torque too but it depends on how much money you want to spend.

Re: More low end torque on an LS1
I just looked at my old dyno graphs and found that my 01 TA was putting out 300lbs/tq at 2400rpm-stock.After H/C,headers it was 350lbs at 2400 rpm.
I agree with the gears for SOTP performance.Either way a stock LS1 will beat a LTI from a roll the way it is.

I would say get a set of Grotyohann clone headers, 218/218 XE-R sized cam and some 4.10s
