Default Budget 382 Stroker ?

How much roughly am I looking at to get one built?

I have no clue in this subject because I thought this would be something I'd do next year or even further down the line. But since my bottom end decided to fail me this past weekend this is now something I'm considering.

Pete are you planning to do the motor yourself? Some of the sponsors have good deals on the kits. You'll need the Block honed.Save some money assembling yourself..If you just want the short block MTI had some good deal..

Perhaps you can get the rotating assembly for ~$3500, it comes already balanced you would just need to machine the black. You will need a new cam too since your C2 will be too small and it's mostly ruined.

Their special now is $5K for a complete shortblock plus $800 core charge.

$3500 is just the Crank,Pistons,Rings and Rods. You'll still need block work, plus bearings..and whatever else happen to the heads..Hopefully nothing..

Yeah, I was just talking about the rotating assembly. The Lunati (3.905 bore x 4.000 stroke) kit comes with a billet crankshaft, pistons, billet rods, and some other little stuff. The crank is like $2500 of that cost.

I'm also gonna inquire locally at AES.

wounder what the cost of a 382 all bore set up would be, new pistons, rods all forged and stock crank, could later be upgraded to a 422, hmm ever think about that route

I remember just a couple weeks ago you did heads/cam at Speed Inc. right?

To be on topic - if you did an all bore, I think you can do that without going to an iron block or a resleeve. JPR's 382 allbore is with an aluminum block. Then all you'd need to upgrade would be the crank and rods later to get a 422.

Yeah, the heads/cam was done in January. I had about 500-600 miles on it and went roadracing this past weekend. Engine went BOOM!!

Bad I'm almost in your same boat, with the budget rebuild. Mine is consuming massive amounts of oil, I'm looking to go JPR more than likely, I was told recently that he phased out of 382's and is building 387's now (through e-mail) Correct me if i'm wrong. My only problem will be tuning, as I am in nawf carolina and I can't seem to find a tuner anywhere. Good luck!

You could go All bore, like said, but the Compression Height is going to change with the new crank and rods.

CH for stock crank and 6.125 rods: ~1.311

CH for 4" crank and 6.125 rods: ~1 .130

Keep the rods, and get a new crank and pistons

BTW- Were you at Road America?

Yup, Road America. Happened on turn 14 right before the long straightaway.

I too am thinking of this very hard. what about the SCAT crank? how much is that and is it a good piece? do the bearings have to be replaced or is it just a good idea?

I8COBRA:

Dude, i can't believe your motor grenaded while road racing. THAT really SUCKS and i feel for you man. What gave, a rod bolt, a dropped valve?

Anyways, keep your head up man. ON the bright side it looks like you will end up getting more power faster than you anticipated. Best of luck to you on getting back on the road as soon as possible.

Rod bolt most likely.

Not sure yet what the next plan will be.

I am waiting to get the results, but the prognosis isn't good. I ran out of f-ing gas going down the track about mid way. I am an azzhole. Car was running strong, then I go and do this. Joe Prince(JPR) built my motor on the TOP HALF, and he seems to think MAYBE a rod bolt let go on me as well. He never touched the bottom half, but right now I am wishing I had more money then and I would have had him dig his hands around there too. I am SCREWED right now. No $ + No Engine= very sad man right now.

May God Have Mercy On Their Souls. The car went 11.70 115 at 3720 RW. Obviously their was VERY little gas in the car so it was EXTRA light that day.
