Default Have a question about Valve Job?

My personal Mechanic said he would do a 3 angle valve job for me.... What exactly is a "3 angle vavle job" How much Horsepower are we talking about he said he would do it for "ME" for around 200$........ I dont even know what it is, or what it would do.... He said around 20% of total HP...??>?>?>?>?

Search a little and you will probably find some more info than this but here ya go. Three angle is just what it sounds like, most engines have 45 degree seats and the 3 angle just knocks the edges off of the bottom and top of that angle to help flow around the valve. So to do that the cut the 45 and then they cut a 30 behind it and continue on to the 60 degree top cut. The reasoning behind this amount is air most of the time cannot tell the difference between a radius turn and a turn that are made up of a bunch of straights that are 15 degrees away from each other to make the same turn. So that is another thing that separates companies away from each other is "playing" with different variants of those cuts to get a better flow around the valve.

It is hard to put a number on it, too many variables. But have seen around 30 or so between a good valve job and a terrible one on a 450 hp engine.

I have seen some pretty big increases on Hyabusa outlaw motors going from a 5 angle to a full radius valve job, but I don't think 20% would be possible from stock valveseats....only if you let a 3 year old do your last valve seat job with a rat tail file
