Camshaft Endplay Question...
I just installed my new camshaft and torqued down the retaining plate. By pulling on the guide pin, I can move the camshaft about an 1/8 of an inch back and forth in the journals. Is this ok?
It looks like the forward position is the correct one as far as lining the lobes up with the lifter journals. Is the camshaft "pulled" forward once I reinstall the timing gear?
Also, I followed JMX's instructions on LS1HOWTO. I didn't see anywhere (and did not remove) the camshaft position sensor when I took the old cam out and put the new one in. Is this ok, too?
I just want to get things straight before I button the front up.
Thanks...

The camshaft will pull forward once the timing gear is installed. I'd check the end play once you have the gear installed, but it will tighten up considerably.
The factory calls for .001-.012" of end play on the camshaft for reference.
