Talking Pulley Removal

I will be installing a cam, springs, pump, etc in a few weeks. Can I get the pulley off with a 1/2" Air Impact? I have an A4 but wanted to know if I could bypass taking off the starter. My starter is hard to get to since I installed the SLP Headers.
Thanks,
Bill

you can get the bolt out with a impact but you will have to have a tool to pull the pulley off.

There is no reason to take the starter off for a cam install. The crank bolt will come out easier if you heat it with a small torch. It will melt the lock tight and make it come out easier.

The stock pulley is a biatch to get off but you shouldnt have to touch the starter. I used an impact to take off my asp pulley and it came out fine.

Wait a minute, your changing springs too right? When you pressurize the cylinders the assembly will rotate, keep this in mind.

Here is a tip that made my install much easier. Disconnect the coil connectors(large white connectors-1 for each bank of coils), put the socket on the crank bolt and place the end of the breaker bar on the ground(driver's side), turn the key.... and... MAGIC!! the crank bolt is broke loose with no sweat. Good luck and don't forget to use a new bolt with Loc-tite!

why do you have to use a new bolt? What is wrong with stock bolt? Also is locktite NECESSARY? I didn't use locktite

its torque to yield, can only be used once. with a new bolt, exta lock tite is not needed.

Yeah definitely use a new bolt my dumbass found that out the hard way. I ended up having to retap the threads in the end of my crank, not fun.

The stock bolt is fine to use just get a new one when you do your swap.
