Default Who all has done a zo6 cam??

I did a search for this and couldnt find anything. What kind of power gains would i see? Do i need to put in new springs??? I would it be alright on the stock converter for a while? Would i need to have any tunning done?

Thanks

brains is working on fixing the search, but, trust me, tons of people have the ls6 cam. i personally wouldnt go through a whole cam swap just to put in that cam but to each there own. from idle to ~4800 the cam is pretty much spot on with the stock cam. from there the ls6 cam shows its strength on the top end. as for springs 02+ ls6's and anything better will work. if you get an 01 ls6 cam you can use the 01 springs but i'd just as well upgrade. the cam is plug and play, no problem for stock tune or stock convertor. just raise your rev limiter to take advantage of the new powerband.

You need '02+ ls6 springs.
The cam is very plug-n-play. You'll want to raise your limiter.
Gains are noticable only from 4000rpms on up.

360-375rwhp with full bolt-ons.

Thanks guys i was gonna go with an MTI sleeper cam but i can get this cam for somewhat cheap. Could i go ahead a put some 978 springs on? Probelly going to do a timming chain and pushrods so when im out of college and have another car i can just buy a cam.

Thanks again

Why 978s?

There are so many stock diameter valve springs to chose from now!

Patriot Gold Duals, PRC Duals, Comp 921's, Crane duals, etc....
Comp 918 singles are great up to .600 lift.

New timing chain not necessary. Hardened pushrods are a good thing to have, but are not necessary with a cam like the ls6.

as far as upgrading springs, yes you coud do that now. though i'd consider other options over the 978's; PP's Golds.

Go to Texas Speed's website ----->
and check out their spring selections, most notably:

199-SPRKIT Precision Race Components Dual Valve Spring Kit Rated Up to .660" Lift, 1997-2004 LS1/6 and 2005 LS2 Vehicles FREE SHIPPING THIS WEEK!! $289.99
Also check out the other reputable sponsors for comparables.

PRC duals would be great to have in there if you intend on getting a bigger cam in the future.

For the ls6 cam, just get ls6 springs, or some Comp 918s.

lol, no ****

looks like we got this guy covered . i'd go ahead and install the PP Golds or PRC's since your gonna be going through all work of a spring swap, might as well install the best you can. and as stated, it allows for further cam upgrades.

I ran an 02 LS6 cam as my first cam swap. Idled dead stock, while cruising and part throttle operation it seemed the car had more ***** than the stock cam. Definately pulls hard from 4500-6500rpms. My old setup was Lid, Ported TB, ASP, Longtubes @ ORY thru SLP dual dual muffler, 02 LS6 cam @ LS6 Valvesprings. Kept stock pushrods and retainers. Untuned the car made 361rwhp @ 351rwtq. After an LS1Edit tune by Mikey @ Rapid Motorsports it laid down 376rwhp @ 361rwtq. I could have added a cutout to the setup at hit 380+rwhp as the DD is a little restrictive. Keep in mind this is thru an M6. An Auto will not hit these numbers, 330-350rwhp thru an A4. It should run fine on the stock tune as mine did but you will be leaving power on the table as with any cam change without tuning. Your stock converter will be fine but as with any upgrade it sure as hell can't hurt to get a stall in there with this cam.

That's what I did and am loving this cam. Still on stock tune though. That'll change in the near future
