Default Which Lifters For Trex Cam

I am getting ready to do a cam swap and I need to know what the best choice of lifters would be for this cam.

I was going to just stick with stock ones cause I have not heard anything bad, but have decided would be a little risky with the agresivness of this cam.

So what Should I be looking for.

I have Stock rocker arms.
7.400 hardned pushrods
Dual patriot performance Springs

A stocker would be fine but, with the high rpm that the cam is designed for I would use a Comp Pro Mag (R series) part 875-16 You have stock rockers, so I would use a stock lifters because of preload that the R's require.

Crane ones will do fine. Improved bleed down and rollers. Good quality.

It's possible. Tire and suspension will get you there.

I swear by the stock lifters for now, until Morel comes out with their LS1 version.

Hugh... I admit to being relatively new to LS1's, but I am about 99.999% (ok, 100%) sure they use hydraulic roller lifters from the factory. I would agree with the majority here and suggest either reuse the stock lifters or use stock replacement lifters; they are much more tolerant of variations in valve lash which can not be practically adjusted on our cars with out converting to an adjustable valvetrain. If the Comp R type roller lifters are the same or similar to the old flat tappet hydraulic Comp R lifters, they are much more like a solid in that they have much less plunger range of motion and they get adjusted to 0 lash (take out all of the clearance in the valve train but does not compress the lifter at all) which would not be possible with out an adjustable valve train

Crane lifters are garbage. I had 2 of them pump up.
Ive been running the stock lifters ever since. with my T-rex.
about 300 passes since going back to the stockers. most of them in the 10.2-4 spray, and 11.3 motor range and no problems.

Prolly because you set the preload cold instead of hot and upon pump up you had too much preload. Nothing to do with lifter quality.

how do you set preload? And is this something that you have to do with Stock replacements or just with the Comp R's

With any lifters.
There are 2 kinds of rockers.
Adjustable
Non-adjustable (like stock)
1- On adjustable rockers you set the preload after 0 lash on the p-rods with another 1/2 to 3/4 turn (depends on manufacturer's recomendations)

2- On non adjustables 2 ways,

a> custom length pushrods
b> shimming the rocker stands

So am I going to have to pre load anything with my 7.400 pushrods and stock rockers.

Also is there anyone that can tell me what might be ticking in my engine. I was racing someone and I shifted from 3rd to 2nd at 6000 rpms. clutch grabbed and rear locked. Now my engine ticks after this. I am not sure where it is comimg from exactly but It sounds like it is coming from under the car more then anything.

check out spohn's chassis mounted tq arm. i've got one sittin in my bedroom right now about to be installed, and its a sweet piece. i got it brand new for $385 shipped, which isn't too bad considering it came with the front driveshaft loop option($40 extra).

PM me if you have any questions.
