does it just slid off? I haven't every taken springs off before so I don't know exactly what I'm looking at.

Easy. Grab it with a pair of channel locks, give it a slight twist, and it'll pop and slide right off.
Hopefully you have new ones. Don't plan on reusing them. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

if you are just changing valve springs then there is no need to take the seal off, make sure you have air pressure on the cylinder you are working on. or you will be pulling the head of next!!

Yes I have air in the cylinder. I am changing the seals, not the springs. And no, I'm not going to reuse them. They're bad. That's why I'm doing all this. They are threaded seals. There are pics here https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...=012531#000006 What are the best kind of seals to run?
