Thumbs up Comp Cams: Best Customer Service hands down!

Happy Holidays!

This is overdue, (and a little wordy), but I wanted everyone in the F-body community to know that Comp Cams customer service is truly the best! And sooner or later everyone finds out that customer service is extremely important when choosing your parts.

We all know there is plenty to worry about when putting performance parts in your engine. You can forget about your warranty, and expenses as a result of a busted part in your “race” engine - well you’re pretty much on your own…”If you can’t afford to Pay then you shouldn’t Play!”. Well….not necessarily!

I bought defective (un-heat treated) 918 springs last summer from MTI- (somehow they still had an old batch in their inventory and I didn’t know about the blue stripes yet). A spring broke in about 100 miles, (Mild MTI (Lunati) C1 cam installed by very reputable LS1 mechanic Tom Cody) So I had to pay all over again to get my car running. First I asked MTI to reimburse R&R head labor, light machine work, a valve, gaskets and head bolts to get the engine back together.

After a couple of weeks of e-mailing and calling, they suggested that Comp Cams reimburse me. I was pretty worried. I could see a finger-pointing match between them and CC - with me stuck in the middle.

Not so! Wayne at MTI called Red at Comp, who called me back immediately. He studied my situation and said, “When I took this job I told myself and everyone involved that I’m going to do what’s right, no matter what. We are going to fix this” (Wow!) He sure couldn’t understand how those old springs were still around at MTI but planned to take it up with them separately. He wanted the customer satisfied FIRST!

Comp Cams quickly sent me a check and an apology for ALL my parts and labor costs as a result of the broken 918 spring. (Keep in mind, CC spent over triple the cost of the springs including new free springs and seals, in order to make it right.)

The score:
CC profit :zero.
CC reputation :110%!

Some learned advice:

1. If you are torn between cams, springs, etc…Always Go with company with the best customer service and tech help. Comp Cams.

2. Any company…If you have a problem as a result of a part: Be honest about your expenses. Take good pictures, make good copies of your receipts and draft a polite and respectful, yet firm letter. Be polite yet persistent. (Only call 2-3x a week until something happens)

You may be surprised how you come out!

Thanks again Red and COMP CAMS.
Happy Holidays
