Default How many quarts of oil do you put in your car?

I just wanted to see how many quarts of oil everyone puts in there car every oil change on the LS1 motor. I looked it up in the owners manual and it stated with the 5.7 to add 5 1/2 quarts of oil. When I check my dipstick it is still showing low even after 5 1/2 quarts of oil.

I use the long filter (the one that's actually for the silverado) and put in 6 quarts of oil.

Yep bolts right on... the longer filter gives more filtering area which is always good. Because I use the bigger filter, that's why I use 6 quarts of oil... it holds a little more oil, so I just add another half quart and call it good.

6 quarts here with the K&N HP-2006 (long filter). I just like being able to toss 6 bottles in without worrying about measuring it by half quarts...certainly hasn't hurt anything with my car. Runs great, and gobbles about 1 quart of oil every 5K miles.

What he said. Royal Purple is my oil of choice, if that matters.

I run ~5.5. Just fill it up until it hits the appropriate marks on the dip stick. If you run more oil than that, you do so at the sacrafice of horsepower. In other words, you should only run as much as you need for proper lubrication and cooling.

I will be running that larger filter with my next oil change. I never checked to see if there was a larger filter availible. Thanks!

5.5 quarts. I am fortunately blessed with a car that leaks not a drop.

5.5q
Who has read their owner's manual? I am guessing not many of you. It says to check engine oil only when the engine is up to operating temp, and shut the engine off for a few minutes then check. Ofter I change my oil it takes about 4 minutes for it to show up just right on the dipstick after I shut the car off. I will read different if I went out right now and checked it cold.

I've read quite a few parts of my owners manual. Actually, every time I mess with something new on my car I read the appropriate section of it just to see what it has to say. Run Mobil 1 right now, have a case of Castrol synthetic waitin to go in with the long filter this next change. We'll see how it goes, I'll be putting in the full 6 qts again.

I also use a longer filter Wix 51522. I put in 6 1/4 qts and that is exactly on the full mark on the dipstick.
