Default Big Bore 396

Can anyone tell me what the specifications are for a big bore 396? What are the advantages of this setup and will it be a good setup for Twin Turbo?

Thanks

Not for Turbo.
Need high revving motor for turbos, 396 is a mega trq, low revving type.

big bore. not stroker. besides, stroker motors do well behind turbos because of the added cubes. just dont go crazy with the stroke. depends on if you want the intended usage of the car is too man.

what bore x stroke are you looking at using as well as rod size?

As from what I have seen there isn't a common 396 that is all bore.
The resleaved LS1 or LS6 block is sleaved on a 4.125 bore which equalls 388 cubic inches using the stock crank, which is 3.622.
When using a aftermarket crank is where you achieve 427 cubic inches.

The all bore is better for turbo and SC setup's as everything flows much better.
If you look at heads that are flowed on a 3.9 bore (stock bore) and you look at heads that are flowed on a 4.125 bore there is a clear advantage on the 4.125 heads.

For the money the 388 all bore is a little more expensive then say a 396 stroker motor, however I believe it is the better way to go.
Unless it has some nasty suspension, and you drive around on slick's the stroker motor's make som much extra torque it makes it very hard to race out of the whole.

In general the shorter the stroke the higher the engine will rev given the same cylinder head and cam on the same size engine. I can do an all bore 382 cheaper than I can do an all stroke 382 given that I have a complete LS1 to start with.

The 396 is a 3.903 bore and 4.125 stroke. Actually a 395. Probably not the best choice for boost, but I'm sure it would be bad *** nonetheless. Doesn't hurt to be different.

I've seen threads here where guys have done a "big bore" motor. Not the stroker 396 but the "big bore" 396. I was wondering what the specs of the "big bore" motor is. Is it possible to go 4.125 bore with a 3.700 stroke? This seems like it would be an awesome motor for a TT application!

What's the 388 specs?

Also, do the bigger chambers lend themselves to detonation? I've read that a small chamber under boost is more detonation resistant.

Your will want to stay with a smaller bore for strength. 383 is probably your best bet...
Here are some combo's specs:
