Exclamation can you point me in the right direction

im defanatly in the market for a whole new cam setup...im not sure if i need to do a full head and cam swap but im willing to do anything to get the most bang for my buck

setup-SLP longtube headers, cutouts, lid, and some suspention stuff(WS6 M6)

I know i dont have a tone of mods but what size cam would yall suggest for a stock ls1 that breaths well. I want something with good numbers and that has some lope to it. Lots of my buddies are saying 224/224 or 228 sized cam any suggestions would be appreciated

Pretty vague question there. You say whole NEW cam setup....what do you have now? Is it totally stock? Why would you need to swap the heads? Heads are more money than a cam swap so the best bang for your buck starts with a cam. Where are your cutouts? What does your exhaust system have besides the headers? You are basically asking another "what cam should I get", and not even giving people your total setup, goals, or uses for the car. Is it just a daily driver? How much track time? Do you want the best 1/4 mile possible out of it even if it sacrafices daily driving ability? If you want some lope go bigger than 224 and get a traditional split (ie larger exhaust duration than intake duration) and ~112 lsa.

Bill, did you end up finding a longer crank bolt? If so, where did you get it?

Item:
TSP 228R 228/228 Cam: 228/228, .588"/.588", 112 or 114 LSA CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!!
Price: $369.99
Description:
This camshaft is excellent for a max-effort, stock cubic-inch engine and a great choice for 382/383 LS1 engines. It works well on the nitrous and has an operating range of 2400-6700 RPM. 2,400+ stall & steeper gears recommended

This is what im looking at...I want something with lope that drives well in the city, my car is a daily driver in the spring and summer months, I go to the track about 5 times a year

Exaust-flowmaster, SLP longtube, y-pipe, high flow cats, and cutouts
intake-Lid with K&N filter, (and its an early 02 model so some guys told me its an ls6 intake manifold???)
other than that i have some suspention mods and drivetrain mods on the way

I was also wondering if i could get away without getting new heads but i honestly wouldnt mind getting new ones

I appreciate the info and feedback

You don't need heads at all. I can't offer any advice on heads I havn't read, nor do I know, hardly anything about them. They are an entirely different topic than picking an off the shelf cam, especially if you want to match your cam/heads. If you get a good hands on dyno tune any reasonable cam should drive perfectly fine. I personally would consider a larger cam than a single pattern 228. Maybe step up to the 233/233 "torquer"? Best bet is to call the sponsors like TSP, Futral, Thunder, etc and talk to somebody about it if you really don't know what you want.

Don't forget FM13,G5x3 etc...
How much do you want to rev?? Daily driver or not? Agressive ramps or not??
There are a lot of max effort cams out there, do some reading.
Match your cam to your heads, gears, driving habits etc....
