Default got elect. cutout..with closed i hear noisy lifter or valve.causing oil consumption??

i havent been able to hear it before but now i hear a noise when i first nail it..noisy lifter or valve..i am not sure..it is on the drivers side...just sounds like detonation clatter but not reading any with hptuners..just a knocking noise..i am using 93 octane only and am getting no knock readings so maybe a valve seal is gone?? i am using about 2qts per 1000miles..let me know what you think. thanks.

Does the timing stay as it should when you go WOT?

It honestly could just be something like a suspension peice banging something though; and keep in mind that this engine is very noisy; it is aluminum

So is timing the same? Did you install the stuff yourself recently?

that is waaay to much oil.

1. check any stupid **** that would cause oil consumption. anything that does not require pulling the motor apart.

2. compression and leak-down test the cylinders.

3. pull of heads and get repaired/ or could be bottum end, like rings/bearings.?

you do know what bearing noise sounds like right? if you don't get somebody who does to take a listen to make sure it is not that.

it is definitely in the valve train...definitely..the timing is exactly what it was set to be on the program at wot it is about 26-28..i just replaced the bottom end approx 8000 miles ago..but it could be the rings gone...i discussed this in another thread i started..now i am trying to find out if it could be a bad valve seal..if you have time please read the other thread..thanks guys..

I have had both qtp and dmh cutouts now. They both rattled when closed. Are you sure that isn't what you are hearing.I sold off the qtp and will be selling off the dmh after getting it fixed.I am sick of these cutouts rattling when closed.I would bet that is the sound you are hearing. If you don't hear the sound when you open it up then for sure.Go under car and listen for the rattle.

How is a valve seal going to cause noise? Do you think that the seal has come loose from the valve guide?
I would think that a broken inner valve spring (assuming you're running dual springs) or a weak lifter would be more apt to cause valvetrain noise. Bent pushrod could also be at fault...

it is at a certain point in the valve train...not all over..i can nearly pinpoint it from in the cab... also if the valve seal was leaking that would probably coincide with the valve guide not being in top condition..which in turn could be rattling..but it only happens each time i goose it and its under a load...seems load related..as in it happens more in like 5-6th gear and dont notice it in 1-4 really just for about 2 seconds or less really it makes a bit of a clatter in the drivers side toward the front of the valve train...no where else could it be coming from...imo.. could this be my oil leak problem??

I think I read some where that the AIR system can be responsible for valve like noise, anyone else heard that?

Bent pushrods.. loose rocker.. exhaust leak.. *shrug* Just pull the valve cover and see what you can find.. takes about 5 minutes. I've heard rumors of people trashing their shortblock, cam and all because a lifter spun sideways and froze.. so its definately worth checking into before damage could possibly occur.

Good Luck,
Josh

thanks guys..got another prob..today i parked my car and all was well...then when i came back out about 35 mins. later and i cranked the engine..no oil pressure...i was way out of town so i had to call a wrecker to take it to a local shop..left it there and about 2 hrs later i get a call and the guy had decided to take a look..the gauge read about 46lbs..perfect pressure..he asked me what i had to drink when i looked at the gauge haha..anyway..i guess a piece of trash must have gotten hung in the pump or something..thought it was the sensor..but i looked down the oil spout and revved the engine a bit and saw no oil moving around and i could see a lifter so i know that i should have seen some oil and i didnt so it wasnt the sensor also a bit of clatter so i know that they had no oil (the lifters)...the pump is working fine now so should i just go ahead and drive it and keep watchin the gauge??

well it sounds like you got an obstruction in the oil system. Also a bad valve seat will casue lifter noise, i have the same problem right now and my car burns oil also due to bad rings or warped sleeve, and detonation, so i got new heads. (Bad valve seat check it out before the engine goes ) if not it could just be a bad lifter. Good way to check is get a crow bar put it up agaisnt the engine with the ruber side against your ear and check araound to see where it is coming from

i have one of those doctor earphone type things that is made for automotive parts (my dad has everything in his shop) i cant distinguish for sure where it is coming from because it is so loud to start with...besides it really doesnt make any noticeable racket until it is under a load anyway..(like 5th or 6th gear and floor it..)

I'm starting to think that the cutout just may be leaking.. This is a common problem after use, and it would be load related.

Good Luck,
Josh
