Default 224/224 .581/.581 112 LSA, 918 Springs _ Springs Service&Maint.

I love what I've been reading about this cam. It was suggested to me by a guy at the drag strip the other day who is really happy with it.
For those who have this setup on stock heads, I've seen the posts recommending spring change every 15,000 miles or so. Is this accurate? This may turn me off from this cam. What would be the biggest I can go without having to do this service so often? I may go with the much hated GM Hotcam otherwise for less strain on the system. There's got to be a ton of other options. Just would like to know what people are using and runnin'.

Um, I know more people that like the hotcam than hate it. Seems like it's getting pretty popular these days. Sounds mean, good HP #'s, and oh yea, I don't have to worry about my valve springs breaking or having to replace them after 20k. If my car wasn't my daily driver, sure I would have gone with a different cam with more lift. But for my needs, hotcam worked out perfectly, especially in the cost category. You could go with a custom grind.

Is the "Hammer" cam a bit easier on the valvetrain? 222/222 .563/.563 ?
This one looks appealing.

You could just get the Comp 224/224 w/XE lobes (.563 lift). Should be much easier on the springs.

ex5.0,

Thanks for the tip. How do you like your cam setup?
BTW, I'm also an ex 5.0 Stang owner (if that's what your Display Name refers to). Will never go back after tasting LS1 power.

I think this "small cam" works pretty well. I only have about 10k on the 918s and no problems w/float and such.

Yes, I've had a few Mustangs.

I saw a HOT ROD magazine LS1 build up where they used a custom Comp 224/224 .533/.533 112, XE lobes, and they were able to get over 400 rwhp out of it and some very good 1/4 mile times. Just proves that you don't need a spring-busting high-lift cam to make power; it's more the duration that's important. This cam was a custom grind, but Comp does custom grinds for no extra charge and only about 4 days extra time.

Sounds great, do you have the issue date of the mag?
On another note, what about the GM ASA camshaft (226/236, 0.525/0.525, 110 )? I just communicated with a guy who's mad happy with it.

whatever you do, don't go with that hotcam, its a waste of money.

Depending how much you drive or beat on your car, determines how long with the springs.

The car was a '99 Camaro SS, that dynoed at 296 rwhp stock. The LS1 build was actually done by the SAM school and turned a best of 11.47 @ 120.45 mph.

Hey, I'm in the same decision boat. I really like the hammer cam specs (563), but I'd like to know how much drop in et the extra .020 in lift on a 112lsa is worth. Never considered the asa cam due to it being designed for round track style racing (correct me if I'm wrong). I had the hotcam in my last 99 Z6m with 4.11's, Borla, shifter, lid & k&n, free ram air, and ran 12.50's @ 113. That was on GSC's. So, yes, I think the hotcam works well. A buddy has a 02 Z6m with stock gears running 12.40's in Orlando.
