Default Clean new cam before oiling and installing?

I am about to swap my cam in a few days... I went with the hotcam kit. The cam is coated in some special anti-rust lube, and wrapped in paper. Should I use brake cleaner to get all that stuff off then oil it for installation? Or should I just oil on top of what is on there, which doesn't seem right... Thanks!

I like to use carb cleaner first,to get the coating off. Then I use brake cleaner to remove any debris.

Then lube it up real nice and slide it in. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

clean that bitch real good with brake cleaner or carb cleaner. and make sure you clean the hollowed out part as well. lots of people have found shavings in there. then when you get ready to put it in, cover it in oil.

The thick coating that appears to be a type of grease is actually a corrosion inhibitor called "cosmoline." Cosmoline has almost zero lubrication properties!

Does Georgia have a video camera; do you have lots of extra tapes? I think you should consider a documentary on the life and times of your Formula...

I think you might be able to successfully market this historical document to the masses....

...like who wouldn't pay $20 for a five hour video showing you how to change a cam and springs on an LS1?
