Default What's needed for a LS2 chain upgrade?

Doing a cam install soon and figured it would be best to get a LS2 chain for $30 instead of paying $130 for some other aftermarket brand. Anyways can I just buy the chain and throw it onto my engine or are there other parts that I need to make it fit?

Well i would think that the LS2 chain is the same as the LS1 chain. IN that case i would save your 30 bones and spend it on that $130 chain that you are going to need.

The ls2 chain is beefier than the Ls1 chain, and is a good upgrade over the stocker, especially if you're going big cam and/or you're car has high mileage.

i was thinking the same idea, but i heard the ls2 was slightly stronger, anyways i didn't think u needed a double roller chain anyways, just a new oem ls1 chain will work... some ppl reuse there stock one. if the ls2 is stronger for 30$ im sure it would work for some applications..

i heard its stronger some how and is a direct replacement!

yea thats as cheap or cheaper then the ls1 chain! i just did some calling, there supposed to be a good bit stronger then a ls1's stock chain, they fit perfectly too, and they will work great unless u are intending on wanting to adjust the timing or whatever, there is no need for anything more then the ls2 chain on a cam only car!

talked to my uncles parts guy at the local chevy dealer.. my uncle runs the place, is supposed to be getting me a price on one if they can get it, ill post up how much, should be the same at any dealer id think.

i just got one from my dealer, the part number for the ls2 chain is the same as the part number for a 98 ls1 chain, so either its the same as the ls1 chain or its a updated chain and is used on all cars now

Exactly! The timing gears are the same with the exception that the LS2 has the cam position reluctor on the cam gear. But if youre throwing the LS2 chain in your LS1 motor, you can use your stock ls1 timing chain gears.

Its a direct swap, the new chain superceded the old LS1 chain, so any replacement you get from the dealership will be the LS2 chain.

If your trying to make horsepower you can't do it on a buget. Spend the extra $100 and be done with it. That way you'll have the advantage of a double row chain AND an adjustable timing set. Sure the LS2 chain might work, but if it fails that $100 bucks will look like a real bargain.

i think it looks worth it, plenty reuse there stock chain with no problems, i was prolly going to do this, but since i can get a ls2 chain for 30$ and not have to modify anything.. a lil added comfort for a small price without changing anything else sounds good to me.
