Default Q/A After Hot cam install

Just finished a hotcam install in a 99 Z auto(NO tune or stall). I had to drill out the idle air hole in the TB so the car would idle better, and not die when put in gear.

Q/A ON a scanner car is pulling random misfire

What gives????

The two coil packs plugs are pluged in(driver and pass are the same right/ I might have mixed them up, but they look the same.

Wires are on all the plugs.

New AC delco plugs( one or two stages colder than what came out)

NO vacume leaks, (already checked)

Crank cam gear are dot to dot(made sure of this)

So what could it be??? plugs to cold, wires maybe

that random misfire thing always pops up after doing a swap. the computer will learn not to ignore it, but i think solve it maybe?!? not 100% on that one lol. but it is normal.

Totally normally. It needs to be "editted" out so the car does not look for misfires near idle...

If you idle for a certain length of time and you pass the threshhold of acceptable misfires, the light will come on. IT should go away on it own once you start driving.

You could run like this forever as far as I know, but then you can't relay on your check engine light for "other" issues, since you won't know if it is lit due to misfires or not.

Enjoy!

The overlap and duration of most aftermarket cams (even one like the Twatcam) will make it misfire at idle sometimes, especially when warming up.

Get it tuned and it'll go away.

You shouldn't drill the TB....too late. If you idle for more than a few seconds with a hotcam it throws that stupid code. You need to tune to take care of it. Nothing can ever prepare you for how nasty a hotcam sounds when you first fire it up. I loved it...I was a little surprised though. Tuning smoothed it out nicely.
