Default easiest way to make 500hp on a '02 Z06

hey every1,
Im looking into buying a 2002 Z06. The 2003 50th aniversarry automatic convertible isnt really the best car for modding, so ill leave that to the wife. I would like my power to be in the 500hp range and i was curious what the best way to get there was? The SLP package looks good, but i have read on the board its all marketing.

Anyone who has 500hp N/A please post your setup, or if you have suggestions on the best combos, please chime in! Also please list the costs.

Are you meaning 500hp to the wheels or at the crank? A good heads and cam package, complimented with bolt-ons, will get you over 500 at the crank. If you want 500 at the wheels in a N/A setup, you may want to go more cubes. If you make that much with stock displacement it will be a radical setup and you may not like driving it on the street. Drivability is relative though...I won't bother listing prices because it can vary depending on what products you can buy. Be ready to spend at least 5k in mods...at least thats what I think would be a good guess (feel free to chime in people).

Need more info to answer your question accurately.

What are your plans for the car?

Dyno Queen?
Drag Racing?
Road Racing?
Show Car?
Daily Driver?

Each one of these would have different optimal setups.

Look at all those good answers!

And what they say is you can get 500 at the cranks for maybe $5k (cam, springs, headers) and at the wheels for a little over twice or three times that. The first you can do in your garage, the second you should have an engine builder do.

And your use is important. Depending on your use there are trade offs in driveablity, powerband, durability, and peak power that you will make. An out and out drag car is not a nice daily driver. A modify and forget it won't win on the weekends. Lots of chrome doesn't make you go fast. And high HP may win on the dyno but the right powerband wins on the track.

P.S.
Supras make better dyno queens.

A good flowing exhaust, small cam and a blower.

If you don't want a power adder, a good head and cam package with good exhaust and induction will get you 500 FWHP in a daily driver. There are some 500 RWHP cars out there (we have one) on pump gas but I wouldn't want to drive them to work every day. Hang in there though, there are some development going on now that should break the naturally aspirated 500 RWHP mark on a pleasurable daily driver.

The plans are for a daily driver with the occasional road course duties. 500fwhp seems like a more practical goal for now, then go for the 500rwhp once my tax returns come back

i would get your heads worked, since LS6 heads are so good to start with, and a cam prob 581, underdrive pully, longtubes, cat back, thats about all you should need
figure about 1500 for longtubes -w- cats and xpipe
1500-2k for good head work
800bucks for the cam springs and all that mess
600-1000 for cat back prob borla stingers but the **** flow good so its not a must have
if you get a cam going to want to get an LS1 edit done 450
plus I would say 2k for all that installed and tuned.

You can do the auto and get 500 at the wheels...depends on your budget for parts and if you do your own install.

From what ive been reading AFRs,230-240s cam, long tubes, roller rockers, ls6 or fast intake, comperable t.b. and maf, electric waterpump, underdrive pulleys, and every other bolt on you can get. should get you close to 450-500rwhp and cost 5k+. Also you may want to contact Tony @ AFR to get some info on the new 225s AFR shortly coming out. But you have to flycut your pistons. Also contact Mike Norris @ ? look at recent threads. Hope this helps.

If any of you care to explain the terms your using id appreciate it. Ive been immersed in twin-turbo rotary speak for the last 2 years and have lost all my fluency in the Vette-jargon

I plan on doing all the work on my own so labor charges arent an issue.
So reworking the LS6 heads (port/polish?) new manifold, TB, intake, longtubes and Stinger exhaust (LOOOOVE that sound), and a more aggressive cam is all id need for 500fwhp? What else would be added on top of that to achieve 500rwhp?

BTW: im not opposed to FI, only thing i WILL NOT have is supercharger whine from a twin-screw. I imagine it would be more expensive to go the boosted route because ill need all the above with the FI kit correct?

How much power can the stock fuel system handle?

Thanks to all for helping me out here!

forced induction with a small cam would be more streetable then a big heads cam combo...the afr's look promising as far as taking a smallish cam(224) and putting up decent numbers nearing 500rwhp but on stock displacement it would take pretty much every bolt on, ZO6's have the ls6 intake already so i wouldnt worry about that, longtubes definitly, ported TB would be good, you can stick with your ls6 heads or go to a good stage 1 or stage 2 head with a good sized cam and make 400-450 to the wheels fairly easily once you try and break the 450 mark you need about the perfect combination of heads/cam/bolt ons/tuning...if you go FI it may be a little more expensive but would make 450+ with a small cam easily.

Or send your Z06 to Lingenfelter and get the blower/long tubes/hood...cant be easier than that.

get the basic bolt ons with a magnuson, you'll love the big low torque grunt. The car should go very low 11's with that easy setup.

Wouldn't full bolt-ons and a decent size cam be good for 410-430rwhp in a Z06?

Isn't the magnuson twin screw?

However, I agree with ya on the FI route. Grab an ATI D1SC tuner kit, get all of the bolt ons, and enjoy a very driveable 500+ rwhp daily driver car.

ive seen "AFRs" pop up a few times in this thread. Are they a manufacturer im guessing? Anyone have more details about their streetable 500rwhp kit?

Also, who makes a centrifugal supercharger or a relatively inexpensive turbo kit for the LS6?
