Just wondering what everyone is running in the way of thermostat?

You guys running the 160 stats, any adverse side effects that you know of?

I have a 172 in mine now. I had a 160 and it ran colder (mid to upper 160s) than I wanted it to. I tried a 180 it ran almost the same temperature as stock.

160 t-stat and custom fan switch.

having a 160 deg t-stat and no computer changes or fan switch will only alter the temp at which your thermostat opens(letting the coolant flow) so in city traffic the temp will rise just like stock, but on the highway it will drop down significantly.

with a fan switch/ computer tuning you can keep it lower 24/7.

Down there in GA it doesn't ever get really cold, does it? Regardless of whatever other mods you have done, the vast majority of engine-builders would tell you to go 160 degrees. Just set your fan temps appropriately.

Are you just starting to build up?

No my engine is done and has a 160 installed. It stays at 178 and that's as high as I've seen it go. I was just curious what everyone was using.

I run the stock GM 186 degree stat. Cost was about $23. According to GM, this is where the motor is supposed to be most efficient.

I've never seen an aluminum block ls1 run faster/dyno higher with a colder than stock thermostat. Seen the opposite, actually.
