Default heads and cam choice for 5.3

Looking at Patriot 5.3 heads to go on my 5.3 in an 02 sierra. Whos got some recommendations. This is an everday driver but, obviously I want the most HP/TQ possible without loosing alot of drivability. I plan on doing heads, cam and pushrods at the sametime, Will I need to change rockers also. This is going to be an NA motor and I dont plan on gasing it.

Hey, I have an answer for you. GM PN 12565308 cam. This is the same cam that comes with the 02-04 ZO6. Duration is 204/218 I/E is 0.555/0.551 117.5 LSA. Depending on your exhaust and intake set-up with 4 degrees of advance, you would be looking at 352hp/346lb.ft. A nice unit that I would run atleast 91 octane in. My 01 Silverado is getting the same cam in a few weeks from my 03' ZO6. The horsepower and torque numbers are based on a identical engine/cam dyno test in How to Build High Performance LS1/LS6 V-8's by author Will Handzel. Here is a link for the manual that is worth the money. You want to watch your combustion chamber size. You don't want to have to run 100 octane lol. I would stay in the 9.0-10.0 compression range.

Keep it stock and use LS1edit for the shiftpoint.

o2sierraz71..................you are looking at a hand held tuner to raise your rev. limiter with that cam. Peak hp happens at 6000 rpm. Torque peak is at 4800 rpm, np.
I believe Patriot sells a head for your truck with a 68cc combustion chamber. If you are looking to supercharge it in the future then you would probably be ok around 10.0:1 compression. I'm not sure about your stock rocker ratio is at 1.7:1 or not. Aftermarket adjustable rockers will add weight to your valvetrain and will not be a good application for high rpm power. You may consider using the stock with longer aftermarket NASCAR quality pushrods.

If you want more power, I would look at either LS1edit or a handheld tuner where you can get some spark advance and fuel during power enrichment. (WOT) A good intake system and performance exhaust system will definitely help with the tuning. We are talking about your 04 Silverado correct? The hp peak is at 5200 to start out with. More air to go with more fuel would be a good starting point.

The motor is going to be NA and I dont plan on gasing it. Ive allready got a 3K stall, shift kit exhaust, nelson tune bla bla bla Im ready for the head, cam swap how much can I mill before I have to worry about ignition and race fuel this is an everyday driver but I want the most out of it. Id plan on being around 380 rwhp when done. There are alot of nay sayers but I think it can be done on an everyday.

how do I compute comression ratio?
Ive allready got handzels book it is a good read I just wish they had done up a 5.3

This is an everyday so I want drivability. how much of a cam could I go with. It seems that I should get the cam custom ground to fit the heads. I wonder if anyone sells a package allready together?
My mechanic can do the port and polish job himself, I trust him he's very kowledgable and does good work. I wonder if I should let him do it by hand or get someone to CnC them.
hmmmmmmmmm choices
