Default What's the absolute biggest cam i could run with a 3500stall?

I currently have a TSP228R .588/.588 228/228 at 112 which is an XER gring. But i think i wanna go a bit bigger, what would you guys suggest? The stall is an Art Carr 3500 2.4str with anti balloning plates for nitrious, and i'm still running stock gears for now but plan on going with 3:42's or 3:73's or similar later on.

i'd go with the futral 236"/239" .600"/.611" 111LSA...trex should also work...just look around and see what cams start their power band at 3500

You don't think i'd need a 4000+ for either of those?

prolly not...futral says 3500-7200 power range...so i think it should be fine...now the trex maybe...it is a little bigger...if you are concerned i'd really think about the f-13 (230"/232" .595"/.585) it would be well into the powerband at 3500rpms...so far it has proven to be a VERY good cam...i think gomer was making more power with it than his current one which is a couple sizes bigger

Would you recomend the f-13 at a 112 or 114lsa? I know the 112 will have a rougher idle but what real advantage would i get with going with a 112lsa?

depends...112lsa will move the power band down slightly so you will peak near 6200rpms prolly...personaly i would get the 112 because i don't like the motor spinning really high (wear and tear) and i like the rougher idle...now if your heads were milled significantly then go with the 114 it will offer more p-v clearance...other than that i really don't know...maybe i should research it a little more..i just know the high hp f-13 dynos were with a 112 lsa...just talk to allen at futral and tell him your goals and what you have already (3500 converter) and he will suggest the best cam...he is good so i would go with his advice over mine or most anybody's for that matter...good luck...for what it's worth i will be going with the f-13 with a 112 for my cam when it comes around to it

I thought that a cam on 112 would have a higher peak hp(as far as up in the powerband) than one on 114. I guess i was just mixed up.

lower lsa equals rougher idle...advancing a cam like 112+4 lower's the powerband...and the lower the lsa, the more the lobes will overlap, and that means more lope, gas smell, and drivability issues...however, the lower LSA can also mean more power and you get it sooner in the RPM range to boot...

im not sure when they say 3500-7000 they mean u only need a 3500 stall lol, think u need a 4000-4200 with that. also need to think about how much lowend ur giving up and drivability with the bigger cams..

im considering running the 232/236 n2o cam on a custom 112 lsa if he'll do it for me, but ill need a 3500-3800 stall and 3.73's

with taht 3500 i would upgrade to a 233/239 or 233/233 tq'er cam from tsp.

Stall choice with cam;

Match shift points/drops to stall shift extention range. Nothing to do with stall rpm.

I say put a 100 - 150 shot on that one and see what ya end up with. I'd want a bigger stall with a bigger cam. Hell I like my PT4000 with my TSP 228R. Wouldn't of cared for anything smaller.

The TSP torquer would be a good match for that stall as well.
