Do a compression check. Anything more that 15-20 pound difference and you have a problem.

i just did a head gasket on my mothers truck a month or so ago, it overheated and then warped on a old vortec motor. started gettig water in the cylinders and dirty looking coolant. on startup it would blow steam out the exhaust and eventually got so much water in the cylinder that it wouldnt turn over. changed the gasket and its fine now.
