Default Running Rich Problem

I am not sure if i am running rich but i did install a head and cam package and some pistons and new bearings on my ls1 this summer. i had a tune from ape, not on the dyno but had it on the dyno and was running 11.9-12.1 a/f ratio and my oil smells like raw gas. On the mustang dyno it put down 387rwhp and 360rwtq. Every time i check the oil level i can smell gas. What is the problem? Is it running rich, something installed incorrectly? I need help.

Thanks,
Jeff

That sounds rich since stock LS1's are running 12.9:1 I was the same as you (without the H/C package, but with all the boltons). I was running 11.0:1 and got it tuned to where now I am running a steady 13.0:1. I would first start out by looking to your tune. Its the most painless way to start out. And just for the record I am running 354rwhp and 360rwtq with stock internals through an A4 with 2.73's, so I figure you should be over 400 with that setup once you lean it out.

I would go back to your tuner, as that A/F ratio is pretty rich (too rich). A good A/F on the dyno should be in the 12.6 - 13.0. I would say to question the dyno 1st but with the smell of raw gas tells me that the dyno is not in error.

.....an added plus is you should pick up an easy 10+ RWHP getting that A/F tuned back in line !

Good luck.
