balance by itself? Curious as to how well balanced the factory cranks are, as I am considering swapping out the rotating assembly of my LS1. Not sure I want to bet my $ on swapping out the rods & beaings & pistons without taking the crank out and machining the block as well. I know many ppl couldnt even begin to think about swapping only rods & pistons without machine work and stuff, and I normally wouldnt except I was able to get away with it so much with my old SBC setups. If the crank is decently balanced and match the piston/rod assemblies it shouldnt be too much of a problem. Of course maybe I am tired, and no thinking straight again. Or hopefully I can find a good crank and block to send off for machine work along with rods n pistons.

You can't check for balance on a bare crank. You would need some bobweights. If someone could get you a stock setup bobweight you could go down to your local machinist and see.
