Default So what exactly causes cam surge?

What is it exactly that causes cam surge, i.e. making the car buck and kick? Is it bad / should be avoided?

Thanks,
Brian

Usually associated with big cams, caused by the disturbance of air induced by the large overlap of said large cams.

Typically air fuel ratio. typically tuned by getting enough timing at the surging rpm to rebuild the cylinder pressure that the overlap is losing and also optimizing the "running airflow" table also called "idle air".

Is it bad for the engine? Or is the fact that its annoying the only drawback?
