Agree and Disagree.

Coated bearings are a good insurance policy, much like synthetic oil. Sometimes when you're using weaker blocks and cranks/rods coated bearings might be a good insurance policy to have.

yea, but KBC....why would you build a motor w/a weaker block and crank/rods? even budget stuff can withstand some serious hp.

for that just keep your stock stuff, unless it blew up, but saving a couple hundred aint worth buying crap.

It'll withstand the power, but that doesn't mean the stuff isn't moving around quite a bit. All it takes is one small mistake and Whammo!

If you've ever taken a 4-Bolt Main SBC block and line-honed it, check it, un-torqued the caps, torqued them back on, and then checked them again, you'll see that you're getting different results. Do this with a DART or Bowtie block and the results will almost be exactly the same.

Imagine what happens to a stock 502 block when you're using an Eagle rotating assembly kit, steel splayed mains, and you're making close to 1500HP. Things move.

I have torqued an LS1 main down and checked it 3 times in a row just to make sure and it was always the same. These motors are really tough. I think that if you are going to put a motor together why wouldn't you put coated mains and rods in. Just the same as if you could coat the pistons.

Personally I have no problem with coated bearings. We've used them in everything from 100,000 mile stock re-builds to 2000HP BBC/Blower motors. Like I said, they're a cheap insurance policy should something bad happen.
