Default Best oil to use for LS1

I have been using RP for years in various machines with no problems. I just purchased an 02 M6 Z28 and put in 5W30 RP. I keep reading about people using M1 0W40, and German Castrol 0W30. I always thought Mobil 1 looks dirty, and came out really dirty. RP goes from purple to clear then to brown after about 3K. What are your opinions on oils and weights. I was considering going to a 10W30 or 10W40 RP in the summer then change back to 5W30 before the winter. The car will be seing a lot of track time in the summer months. Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated.

What he said. Mobil 1 0w-40 is great. If the Castrol was easier to find I might try it but it's not worth me driving all over town for it.

I saw it at a Auto Zone once but now everytime I go I can't find it. So I just grab the Mobil. If they have it next time I'll try it.

Mobil 0W-40 for me. Even an experienced tuner liked what he saw (oil pressure, WOT runs, dyno numbers...)

I've been using Mobile 1 10W30, but I'm not happy with all of the carbon deposits I'm getting in the combustion chambers and piston tops. I may try something else after this rebuild.

I will use nothing but German Castrol 0w30 in my cars, as long as it's available. I've got a huge supply that should last me a while though.

If it weren't available, I'm not sure exactly which oil I'd run but the top runners would be M1 0w40 or 5w40, Syntec 5w40 or Esso XD3 0w30.

Found German Castrol 0w30 at AutoZone today on sale for $3.99 but they only had 8 qts (I bought them all). They did have a few qts of the American Made 0w30 but did not get any. I think it is the same but wanted to check first. Anyone know for sure.

The US made 0w30 is only the same if it's label shows the following specs on it:

ACEA A3/B3,B4
VW 502.00,505.00,503.01
BMW LL-01
MB 229.1,MB 229.3
Porsche approved

Otherwise it's the older stuff which is not as good. (it's not even close)

I just switched to Amsoil- 10-40W.. In the winter on start-up and or sitting for awhile, a got the normal piston slap we hear on these Ls1's bais engines. I was running RP before- now that i switch to Amsoil, the piston slap has gone away... I'm sticking with Amsoil.
