Default Pulling an engine question

I've never pulled an auto out the top before. If I undo the converter<->flex plate bolts can I leave the tranny in the car otherwise connected and pop the engine out the top? Or would I have to drop the tranny out the bottom first? Usually I take engine+tranny out the top together, but if I can get away leaving the tranny in the car mounted up I'd prefer to do that. Doing an engine R&R.

I just pulled my motor out from the top two nights ago. I put a floor jack under the trans, and let it stay in there. The motor came right out, Hood still on the car and everything. Plenty of room.
Hope this helped.

I had the heads off when i pulled mine out. I dont know if i should have but i used two head bolts to yank her out. It didnt elongate the holes or bend the bolts, so i think it was ok.
