Cam swap checklist...
all right guys im probably getting the FMS f14 cam 232/234 .598/.598 on a 112 or the TSP 233/239 .598/.595 on a 112.my car is a 2002 and it has about 36,000 miles on it.ive been hearing about maxxing injectors with these big cams lately.is this true.all at the same time im going to do the cam, dual springs, new seats, seals, pushrods and retainers(Ti),a set of pacestter LT's,duals(again...),and im wondering if theres anything else i need to do.oil pump?timing chain?steeper gears(4.11's, BTW it IS an M6)?anything else?just to let you know i AM running a 100-shot currently, and probably doing a new pump and a 150-shot in the near future.
so far this is my list:
1.cam
2.dual springs
3.titanium retainers
4.hardened seats
5.GM valve seals(or equivalent)
6.matched pushrods
7.new water pump gasket
8.new crank bolt
9.Pacestter LT's
10.True Duals
can anybody else add any other stuff?

Dont know that you a gasket "kit" the only ones to worry about(with your milage) would be the water pump gaskets, all the rest should be fine, have fun with the oil pump, I only do these by dropping the motor from the bottom, its too much of a crap shoot otherwise as far as the O-ring. If you have to do the pump might as well replace the chain, although I might catch some flack for this your 02 pump is great and the stock chain hasn't caused many members awhole lot of problems. I have only done 20+ plus cam swaps so my opinion might not mean much.

And how about a case of surgical gloves to keep your hands nice and clean? The lady in your life will thank me for that! Tell her to send $10 my way as a thank-you!

Thats the same cam I'm doing in about a month. My car is also low milage at 27k. I got everything you listed to do plus a few more while I have it taken apart. I have the ASP pulley because of all the "pain in the *** install" threads I've read. I figure If I have to do it anyway, now is the time to do a crank pulley. I had a real hard time deciding on the ported oil pump and double timing chain. I finally decided to do them for three reasons.
1) It's already costing a lot to do the cam, an extra $200-$250 isn't gonna break me.
2) It's all going to be taken apart so it won't add much time to the install.
3) I don't want to have to worry about parts breaking, I think I would be paranoid.
Actually four reasons. The last one is worse case senario. If I didn't replace them and one went bad and blew my engine, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.
Do I really think they are needed? No, but I didn't want to take any chances. Lots of people do cam swaps without them and don't have any problems. But, stock chains do brake and oil pumps do fail. Odds are very bad of it happening but now, after upgrading, I feel like they are close to impossible.
Last think, don't forget any of the tools. I needed to buy a bunch and I thought my tool set was pretty good. If you need to check what tools, go to ls1howto.com
They have a real good cam install write-up.
Good Luck,
Lou
