Default oil pump install ?

hey guys i was watching horse power TV today and they said you need to check clearance on the internal gears with a feeler gauge when installing a new oil pump on the ls1/ls6.they said it could cause damage to the pump? I have never heard this before .. anyone have any input on this??

Thats standard stuff out of the service manual.Few check a new pump for it.

I'm sure the service manual also says to disconnect the battery before changing a tire

I was worried!!! I just installed a new one not long ago and i have never heard of checking one..
