Default 98s With stock oilpump&chain with cam?

I am curious to see how many other 98 owners here are running a aftermaket cam with the stock oil pump and timing chain. I have a 98 also i am planning for my cam swap soon. And now am deciding ifi i should change the oil pump and chain. I know the swap will be more difficult. But if there is allot of people running the stock oil pump and chain with a cam without any problems i might reconsider swaping them out.

Thanks.

I have a 98 as well, and am doing a swap next weekend to the TSP 233/239. When I talked to Jason at TSP he said it's a good idea to change out the oil pump, but that it would be fine with the stock timing chain. So that is what I am doing

Seems like good insurance. Also, how much would you like to dig back in there again later if you do have a problem with the stock stuff?

If the chain breaks later on you're screwed. Change it while you have access to it.

Right now I have a 224/220 .581/.581 116LSA cam with a stock oil pump and stock timing chain. I have had the cam in for just over a year and I will probably be swapping a new oil pump and timing chain here pretty soon. Because over the year my oil pressure has dropped a little bit and I don't want to chance it, so while I am back in there I might as well change out the chain too. So, I would recommend you go ahead and change out the oil pump and chain now if you can

I have a 98 with a Futral F10 cam. I didn't do a chain and pump swap when the cam was installed a month ago. I'm getting it done tomorrow. New Chain,LS6 pump, motor mounts. I would say for peace of mind go ahead and do it. I wouldn't risk it.

I would change the oil pump. I just put a cam in mine in Dec.. About a month and half later my oil pump went out.Now I am rebuilding my motor all because of a freaking oil pump.

Didn't change the chain or pump when I did the cam but it only had 7000 miles on it.

Change them both. 98's had weaker oil pumps, and you prolly have a few miles on the car by now huh? If so, then the chain is prolly a little lose, and swapping it out wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Hell, an LS2 chain is just $28 bucks from SDPC(Sponser ---->). And an LS6 oil pump, ported or not, is a good idea. You can get one from ESP101 on this board for about $45 from time to time when he gets them, hit him up. I got him from him and ported THE **** out of mine. I ported it a lot more than any shop ports theirs, from what I've found out so far.

Definately change both of them. That's what I did for peace of mind.
