Default What really constitutes an LS1?

I read an article where an '02 WS.6 was outfitted with a 385, mad some 7 second 7 second passes & it's still considered an LS1 powered vehicle?

I'm also told the person with that TA posts on LS1tech.

I'm confused!
What makes an LS1, using the base Gen III block & punching it out to 408 or 385?
Then it really wouldn't be an LS1 anymore, would it?

Help me to understand what really constitutes an LS1 powerplant & LS1 powered vehicle.

I wold assume that as long as it sill uses a Ls1 style block and ls1 style heads then it would be a LS1. If that is not the case then what about the 383 stroker? That is still considered a chevy motor.

Just like he said above, if the block is a LS1, it's still a LS1.

I guess it depends on whether you mean if it's a "stock" LS1, or a bored and stroked LS1...
